The Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (IMA) is a non-profit, faith-based ecumenical association. The IMA represents African American and multi-ethnic congregations in Syracuse. With a membership of over 30 congregations, the IMA’s efforts to stem the tide of gang activities and youth violence are well documented and evidenced through its Ten Point Plan to End Juvenile Gun Violence.
It provides programs and services for residents primarily on the south and southwest sides of the city. Among these, the IMA Ten Point Initiative involves pastors, lay and community leaders, residents, organizations and a broad collaboration with the chief of police, Mayor’s Office, Superintendent of Schools and donated staff to reduce violence in the City of Syracuse.
Populations focused upon are African American and Latino youth ages 13-21 who reside in the south, southwest and westside communities of the city. The IMA’s 10-Point mission is to reclaim youth as a viable human resource, to mentor youth to become peer leaders and employable persons; to make neighborhoods safe and to enhance the quality of life for youth and residents by reducing crime, drug trafficking and ‘negative’ gang activity.
