Mission
The mission of the Faith Hope Community Center is to foster healthy kids and families through angermanagement and youth development. At the Center, youth experience positive adult black male role models and learn different ways of handling anger and resolving conflicts.

Purpose
The Faith Hope Community Center’s purpose is to help children, youth and young adults have alternatives forhandling their anger, and hence alternatives to violence, and hope for a better quality of life.

History
The community center began in 2002 as a project of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance’s 10 Point Plan to reduce juvenile gun violence. The resources of the Violence Intervention Prevention Program are available to Faith Hope families and individuals and makes referrals to Hospice of other service agencies.

 

 

Program Areas

Zen Meditation
The Center includes a meditation and creative expression room operated by members of the Zen community as a means of reducing anger.

Tutoring
Tutoring, computer, and educational enrichment are offered to children and youth to reinforce encouragement for staying in school.

Bereavement
Program A Hospice counselor is available at the nearby Dunbar Center to help persons with grief and trauma resulting from neighborhood violence.

Boxing
Boxing classes are taught by founding members, two of whom are former Golden Gloves champions, and distribution of food and supplies is available from the Food Bank of Central New York.
